Welcome to the online Firearms Safety Training Course, presented by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
Completion of this Firearms Safety Training course will satisfy one of the requirements for firearms ownership under District
of Columbia law. Other requirements for legal possession and ownership of a firearm are detailed on MPD’s website
(https://mpdc.dc.gov/node/243962). You may also wish to review District
and federal law governing legal possession and ownership of firearms. Sources are provided at the end of this course.
There is no cost for taking this course and it should take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

All users are required to complete the registration process before proceeding with the safety course. The information given during the registration process allows us to record your information and create your certificate. |
After completing the registration process you will begin the Firearms Safety Training course. There is no cost for taking this course and it should only take you approximately 30 minutes to complete. |
After you have successfully completed the course, your certificate of completion will be created and ready to print. |

The Metropolitan Police Department is offering this firearms safety training course pursuant to the requirements of D.C. Official Code § 7-2502.03(a)(13). This course contains an introduction to firearms and basic firearms safety measures, as required for first time applicants to register a firearm. Because the use and ownership of a firearm is a serious and continuing responsibility, the District of Columbia strongly encourages you to supplement this course with additional firearms safety education so that you can reduce risks to yourself, your family, and others.
